Helping Employees Stay Productive

It’s that time of year when many companies head into the 4th quarter looking to “make” their year and start the planning for next year. How can we be more productive? How do we streamline or achieve maximum operational efficiency? Tough questions in a tough economy where every dollar seems to count more and more and we ask for so much more out of those who already work so hard for us.

One of the reasons for Tektivity’s success and sustained growth over the last 12 years has been our ability to introduce technology that provides the valued returns so important to our clients. I would like to share with you a particular product that we have discovered while addressing a very specific need for one of our clients: web monitoring.

Studies show that breaking up the day with a little web surfing actually refreshes the mind and keeps people more productive, especially those who are burdened with very tedious tasks. But when does non-work related Internet use or social media time start to interfere with productivity?

Monitoring Pays
Web monitoring allows you to keep track of the time spent by your company on sites that are useful in making your company profitable and sites that provide that refreshing break during the day. Staying in touch with family via email or chats can be very important for working parents and maintain a healthy social life is also important. But, if time spent on non-revenue producing sites starts to increase, web monitoring allows you to keep it in check and keep your employees productive.

Successful and productive people like to stay busy. Sometimes they stay busy by surfing the web.

An Ounce of Prevention
The same device that monitors traffic can also prevent access to specific websites or “types” of websites. Many seemingly innocent sites are known for malware or spyware that can wreak havoc on a computer or network. Blocking known malware sites can save a lot of downtime and money expended to repair damages.

Of course there are obvious human resources issues associated with sites that are deemed inappropriate. Web filtering can certainly curtail or eliminate access to these sites. Also, computers in public areas should be protected and restricted to certain use.

The productivity of an office is what keeps a business afloat, but with every new day, distractions can arise from keeping productive workers from reaching their greatest potential. Keep your office and business on track by using tools that enhance productivity, gain operational efficiency and streamline processes, while at the same time providing a valuable return on investment.
